You can do a VLSI internship in Hyderabad at the ChipXpert centre in Madhapur, in the HITEC City IT corridor. If you can’t travel, the same programme runs live online. You pick either the Front-End track (RTL design and verification) or the Back-End track (physical design), for 2, 4 or 6 months. You work hands-on with real Cadence, Synopsys and Siemens EDA tools in your browser, and you get an internship certificate when you complete it successfully.
This page explains what each option involves, which duration suits your year of study, and how to choose between classes at Madhapur and online sessions. Full programme details are on the main ChipXpert VLSI internship page.
Why Hyderabad Makes Sense for a VLSI Internship
Hyderabad is one of India’s major semiconductor design centres. Chip design, verification and physical design teams work here alongside the city’s wider technology industry. For an ECE or EEE student in Telangana, that means the skills you build during an internship match the kind of work being done in your own city. You don’t have to move to another state just to learn the flow.
Our centre is at Madhapur, inside the Cyberabad corridor. It is convenient for students living in Gachibowli, Kondapur, Kukatpally and Jubilee Hills, and for anyone staying in a hostel or PG around HITEC City during their final year.
Two Tracks, Six Options: Choose Your VLSI Internship in Hyderabad
Every VLSI internship at ChipXpert belongs to one of two tracks. The Front-End track covers how a chip’s logic is written and checked. The Back-End track covers how that logic becomes a physical layout ready for manufacturing. In each track, the 4-month option is the one most students choose.
| Track | Duration | Programme | What you cover |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front-End (Design and Verification) | 2 months | RTL Design Associate | Digital logic, Verilog HDL, FSM modelling |
| Front-End (Design and Verification) | 4 months (most popular) | Verification Professional | SystemVerilog, OOP, SPI and I2C protocols |
| Front-End (Design and Verification) | 6 months | UVM and SoC Expert | UVM methodology, SoC verification project |
| Back-End (Physical Design) | 2 months | PD Foundations | ASIC flow, synthesis, STA basics |
| Back-End (Physical Design) | 4 months (most popular) | Implementation Engineer | Floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing |
| Back-End (Physical Design) | 6 months | Sign-off Specialist | Full flow, DRC/LVS, IR drop |
Verification internship in Hyderabad
If you enjoy coding and debugging, the Front-End track is a natural fit. You start with Verilog and state machines. Then you move to SystemVerilog testbenches, and on the 6-month path you finish with UVM and an SoC-level verification project. Read more on the ASIC design and verification internships page.
Physical design internship in Hyderabad
If you like seeing a design take physical shape, and you like problems about timing, congestion and power, choose the Back-End track. You go from synthesis and static timing analysis to placement, clock tree synthesis and routing. On the 6-month path you also cover sign-off checks. Details are on the physical design internships page.
Which Duration Fits Your Year of Study?
- 2nd year: Start with a 2-month foundations programme, either RTL Design Associate or PD Foundations. It helps you find out which side of chip design you prefer before your core subjects get heavier.
- 3rd year / pre-final year: The 4-month Verification Professional or Implementation Engineer programme gives you enough depth to talk about real tool work in interviews.
- Final year and freshers: The 6-month UVM and SoC Expert or Sign-off Specialist programme is built for pre-final and final-year ECE/EEE students, and it also suits recent graduates looking for a VLSI internship for freshers in Hyderabad.
Offline at Madhapur or Live Online?
Both modes follow the same curriculum and use the same browser-based EDA environment. The difference is where you sit and how you interact.
| Factor | Offline at Madhapur | Live online |
|---|---|---|
| Location | ChipXpert Hyderabad centre, Madhapur | From home, hostel or college |
| EDA tools | Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens in the browser | Same tools in the browser, no installation |
| Doubt clearing | Face to face during sessions | Live during sessions |
| Suits | Students near HITEC City, Gachibowli, Kondapur, Kukatpally, Jubilee Hills | Students elsewhere in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh or beyond |
| Certificate | Internship certificate on successful completion | Internship certificate on successful completion |
For Students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Colleges
Many students who search for a VLSI internship in Hyderabad actually study in Vijayawada, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Tirupati or smaller towns. Here is a simple way to decide:
- You are moving to Hyderabad anyway (for a semester break, a final-year project or after graduation): offline at Madhapur gives you a fixed routine and in-person discussion with other interns.
- You still have regular classes at your college: live online lets you keep up with college while you build tool skills, without paying for rent in the city.
- You are unsure: talk to admissions about starting in one mode. Because the tools run in the browser, your lab work doesn’t depend on which mode you choose.
What You Actually Work On
An internship is only useful if you touch real design data. Across the tracks, interns typically:
- Write and simulate RTL for blocks such as counters, FSMs and protocol interfaces
- Build SystemVerilog and UVM testbenches that check SPI and I2C behaviour
- Run synthesis and read timing reports to understand setup and hold paths
- Floorplan a block, place cells, build a clock tree and route the design
- On the 6-month PD path, clean up DRC/LVS violations and analyse IR drop
All of this runs on industry EDA tools opened in a browser, so your laptop doesn’t need a heavy setup.
Certificate and Placement Assistance
When you complete your programme successfully, ChipXpert issues an internship certificate. We also offer placement assistance: resume review, mock interviews, 1:1 mentoring and interview preparation. This is assistance, not a promise of a job. How you do in interviews still depends on your own preparation and the skills you show.
Please note that this is a fee-based internship. It is not free, and ChipXpert does not pay a stipend. Fees depend on the track and duration you choose, and admissions will share the current fees with you. If you want to compare other kinds of programmes, you can read our page on free VLSI internship options.
